fried lice, i mean rice

11 Dec

Can you spot the following ingredients?

  1. Chicken franks
  2. Cut up prawn (or was it crab) balls
  3. Prawn cut in pieces
  4. Lettuce
  5. Bits of unagi
  6. Bits of crabstick

Yea, hooray for processed meat, and an unhealthy diet.

Not that nice

To improve.

Mk II

Still no good. That’s life isn’t it. Motivational posters say things like “Try again, and again and again..”, wise men say one will eventually have one’s efforts rewarded, but we’re just blinding ourselves to the disappointment.

Apart from ordering food from the cafeteria downstairs, I have not used my voice to communicate at all for the past few days.

But who wants to know that.

Been finding myself home alone a lot lately. And I shall present the reasons why I can’t get studying done.

Planning, preparing for, and cooking meals.

Quite a lot for a single person huh

once again

20 Sep

I guess it has been a while since I posted anything about the mess I make in the kitchen. The chances to cook rarely come by. And today I realise I’m home alone. For the no-idea-what’th time this is another somewhat fouled up omurice.

There’s always leftover rice somewhere in the fridge. And some near-expired or expired packs of flavourings.

A little lumpy still. not enough water..

A little lumpy still. not enough water..

And well, it’s quite nice to go over the recommended intake of eggs once a while. 3 eggs went into this meal. And I think I need a bigger pan. Barely could wrap a bowl of rice. And that’s not evne counting the remaining rice in a plate.

No ketchup. I don't likeketchup.

No ketchup. I don't like ketchup.

Maybe it’s a little browner than ideal. Made the omelette sweeter as well. Felt like having it sweeter.

Along with my blanket and jacket habits, I suppose this is another manifestation of filling the gaps.

having a cake and eating it

30 Jun

Amazingly discovered some instant cake that requires adding water and microwaving only.

Of course you’d snigger and say it’ll taste like crappe, or that it takes no effort (that I admit), and that it will be expensive.

Right on 2 counts. The taste is actually quite alright.

Once more I am home alone for a week or two. Maybe not a good time for me. But that’s not important eh. Slept until sometime before six. Didn’t have time to take out ingredients and stuff and so made some pretty quick stuff.

090324pasta

And hence the really quick stuff like seafood chunks and frozen tori karaage stuff. Processed stuff. Unhealthy stuff. Before you want to snort and say that’s what’s expected from a guy living alone, I shall say I was hungry and grouchy from being woken up by a phone call.

Cheated by thawing the seafood chunk in the water I’m boiling to cook the pasta. And the seaweed on top was just an experiment. I had a pack of seaweed I haven’t opened. For some reason it was opened without me knowing it and the culprit didn’t seal the bag properly and the whole lot got soggy. So I tried putting it in the oven for a couple of minutes (since I brought the oven out) and the result was pretty good. And so it went into the pasta.

And boy is it difficult to talk on the phone to my mom’s friend, fry something on the frying pan, watch the pasta in the saucepan and make sure the stuff in the oven doesn’t burn, all at the same time.

half hour catnaps

6 Jan

Accidental ones. A day at home would be spent in front of the comp watching shows, reading, cleaning, cooking, more cleaning, perhaps some laundry when I run out of clothes, doing pull ups with the bar across my door, stoning, and lying on the bed thinking which will eventually lead accidentally falling asleep and waking up half an hour later. Somehow I always remember to take off my specs.

I guess I better not get contacts.

Don’t think I’ve spoken to anybody today. The phone didn’t even ring once too. Woots. Withdrawal from society complete.

Looks nice doesn't it. Tastes good too.

Looks nice doesn't it. Tastes good too.

So this was dinner. Angel hair pasta with Jap Curry and some Crispy Chicken that’s not very crispy because I baked it in an oven instead of deep frying. I absolutely hate the idea of using a lot of oil to fry something and ending up wasting it. Not too healthy to reuse the oil and all.

Deep frying is probably something I will not ever do I guess. Not too practical for the home yah. If I want to take one step closer to the grave (well, it has probably been many many steps already. I can see the headstone already) I might as well take a trip down to Old Chang Kee’s or something.

Wonder how disgusting the oil is at the end of the day.

Not as disgusting as some Chinese instant noodle plant though. There was a story about them using the oil to fry the noodles for centuries.

Less than a week to the start of school. Wonder what the new semester will bring. Bah.

Do you want Jim back?

chahan again

6 Jan

Lazy to do something elaborate for lunch. Woke up hungry and decided to do something fast.

Phone camera stinks

Phone camera stinks

Always liked fried rice for lunch anyway. But oh well, the point is to quickly get something in before I can take medicine. Rushing to get well before tomorrow. Not nice to give tuition when  not fully recovered.

Housework. Oh well. Some more to do. Nice way to spend the last week of vacation.

Jim escaped for a while this morning. Joe grabbed him back and put him to sleep. This is Joe. Hurhur.

Which means the other blog will be dormant for a while.

I’ve run out of some stuff. The red plastic buttons. Chips. Chocolate. Okay shite, the last 2 aren’t exactly very healthy stuff.

Might as well stay away from choc for these few days. Back to school and back to a choc for lunch lifestyle.

jim goes away again

5 Jan

And the Joe that everyone likes is back. Hope this will be the case. After all, Jim is the moody one and Joe is cheery. No I’m not a schizo.

Maybe it’s better this way.

Dumped home alone again. Nephew is sick. Me the uncle is sick as well, but toddlers are of course more important. 21 year old adults can survive on their own. For most part.

So dinner for the first night was mainly getting rid of leftover stuff. Like one leftover slab of frozen fish. And the remnants of that ancient pack of linguine. But a new bottle of pasta sauce (I’m usually too lazy to make my own sauce).

Wine Infused. Supposedly. Can't taste it though.

Wine Infused. Supposedly. Can't taste it though.

Maybe after 2 years of army food my sense of taste has really degenerated.

So I covered the fish with crumbs and pan fried it (hate wasting oil). Resulted in the crumbs being burnt somewhat. But still very edible and pretty good.

Ok. -Quite- burnt.

Ok. Quite burnt.

And the whitish stuff is leftover egg white. So it was a meal of leftover food for leftover people.

Lunch was settled outside. Went to school to drop off a couple of library books. Walked back home all the way. Takes only 45 minutes (probably can take off 5 from the time I sat down somewhere to type a long SMS). And it had to rain.

Ate some spicy arrabiata pasta at Pizza Hut in KL. Was quite inspired and decided to make one of my own. And this time the sauce was made from scratch!

Spicy Arrabiata Mk I

Spicy Arrabiata Mk I

Don’t say they look like maggots or something. It’s the shell pasta. I got quite depressed when someone said my chocolate truffles look like shite (you’re going to die a horrible death anyway).

First time cooking shell pasta. And didn’t know how much was enough. So in the end I filled the saucepan and it turned out to be too much.

Another thing added in too much was the chilli. Turned out too spicy. Drank half a bottle of water. Plus the fact that the portion was too big, I’m really, bloated (and hence definitely able to float away in a river).

Maybe you can see the chicken in the picture. They were marinated with cajun seasoning as well. Spicy combo!

Hopefully Mk II will be a much better improvement. Shall try putting more stuff in I guess. No idea what though. Suggestions?

面倒なら言いえよ!このままじゃ僕何も分からない。

Anyway, just thought of adding this right before I clicked the button to publish this. During the trip someone told me to not think too much (a lot of people tell me that I guess). And that the easiest solution is usually the right one.

But what makes a solution the easiest?

Easiest to come up with? Easiest for oneself to accept?

Yet, we know that people tend to see the things they want to see, remember only the things they want to remember. Perhaps in a sense people are self-delusional.

I’m trying to guard against that in my judgements.

So would it not be fair to say that the easiest solution to come up with may be the one that is the easiest for oneself to accept?

So what should one believe in? It seems like it’s always easier to doubt.

An existence like Mr Bean is nice isn’t it. Carefree, and a reliable friend in teddy.
